What I use!
Many people ask me what I use and this is a personal preference but for a basic install I use the ones below.
When you go to the plugin site they will give you a lot of information on how they work and what you can do with it.
My Page Order - Download - (2k)
Access: manager/My Page Order
I personally love this one especially on this blog as it has so many pages. If a page gets put in the wrong place I can simply reorder its position. Most new themes works straight out of the box. It also manages sub pages which is great. Plus it is an Ajax plugin do just a matter of drag and drop.
Feedburner - Download - 6 (kb)Before you go any further go register for a Feedburner account and as soon as your blog is set up be sure to load this plugin and get your feedburner RSS feed set up. http://www.feedburner.com
For the best results using FeedBurner with your self-hosted WordPress site, we recommend the FeedBurner FeedSmith plugin (originally authored by the awesome Steve Smith). The plugin will detect all ways to access your feed (e.g. http://www.yoursite.com/feed/ or http://www.yoursite.com/wp-rss2.php, etc.), and redirect them to your FeedBurner feed so you can track every possible subscriber. It will forward for your main posts feed, and optionally your main comments feed as well.

Google Sitemaps - Download - 7 (kb)
This plugin generates a XML-Sitemap compliant sitemap of your WordPress blog. This format is supported by Google, YAHOO and MSN Search. This is probably one of the most important for any blogger wanting comments or or people to interact with a form of some kind. Cryptographp is a PHP script for generate captchas. Cryptographp limit the robots bombarding spams and automating the forms: spaces members subscriptions, guestbooks, forums…
This script is free and does not use any database. It is compatible with PHP >= 4.3.0
This plugin allows you to add a captcha before anyone could post a comment. The captcha can be easily configured in the options of the Wordpress admin section. Here are some examples.

I put all these in a plugin folder and then just upload the folder and over write using FileZilla. You can also just upload one at a time. Remember download, unzip before you upload, upload and then in your dashboard go to plugins and activate.
